Entering the Cherokee Caves

The Cherokee Caves under St. Louis, MO have a long history: beer, a theatre, folly of all sorts.

the items here tell us about the past: masonry arches and walls, fossils, and decaying doorways.

There are currently no entrances that are legally accessible. But there are ways to gain access...

So much is layered down here in the caves. Limestone walls, fossils from now extinct creatures, modern bits of human acitivity.

We are a small impression in the lifetime of these caves.
